The Need for Unified Data

UC Davis has a remarkable transportation network. In partnership with campus teams, we're bringing key datasets together in one place.

UC Davis has a rich transportation network—from the 'Bicycle Capital of America' to Unitrans' iconic double-decker buses. Insights on parking, ridership, and bus performance come from campus partners who each maintain important datasets. Working with those partners, Aggies on the Moove brings this information together in one resource to support planning, research, and climate goals.

A Centralized Transportation Hub

In collaboration with campus partners, ASUCD IRL built a platform that combines transportation datasets into an accessible, interactive website.

ASUCD IRL created Aggies on the Moove alongside transportation partners to make campus mobility data easier to explore in one place. We work with diverse datasets from across campus and present them through a unified database on this website. Interactive tools help students, staff, and researchers visualize insights and learn about transportation patterns at UC Davis.

To Empower and Educate

We're making transportation insights easier to explore for students, planners, and researchers across campus.

Aggies on the Moove helps students learn more about how they get around campus, gives planners useful context for mobility decisions, and offers a hands-on way to engage with transportation, statistics, and data science. The platform reflects more than a year of student research and collaboration with campus partners—and we're excited to share it with the community.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Built by IRL for campus mobility insight

Aggies on the Moove brings together research, engineering, and design—in collaboration with campus partners—to make transportation data easier to explore and understand.

Who We Are

IRL is a student-run software and research agency serving UC Davis through interdisciplinary projects.

The ASUCD Innovation and Research Lab is a student-run software and research agency serving UC Davis through interdisciplinary projects that combine data, technology, and design. Our teams bring together students from computer science, data science, design, and policy backgrounds to support the campus community. We focus on building practical, high-impact work that helps students and university partners make informed decisions.

What We Do

We build tools and research platforms that make campus information more accessible and useful.

IRL builds tools, conducts research, and develops platforms that help make campus information more accessible and useful for students and partners. Our work typically includes data collection, cleaning and validation, system design, interface development, and long-term platform maintenance. By connecting technical implementation with user-centered design, we make complex topics easier to navigate and apply in day-to-day planning.

How We Built This Project

This platform was created through collaboration across research, software, and design.

Aggies on the Moove was developed through collaboration across research, software, and design. IRL worked with transportation partners to bring together datasets from across campus, organize them in a central system, and transform them into an interactive platform for analysis and public use. The process included validating source data, standardizing formats, defining meaningful metrics, and creating visual tools that support both quick exploration and deeper analysis. Throughout development, we iterated with feedback from partners and users to improve clarity, usability, and trust in the results.

Why It Matters

When transportation insights are easy to explore, everyone on campus benefits.

In partnership with campus agencies, this platform brings transportation information into a clearer, more accessible format for students, planners, and researchers. Better visibility into commuting patterns supports informed choices, stronger planning conversations, and thoughtful mobility decisions on and around campus. Over time, we hope these insights contribute to equity, sustainability, and a great day-to-day campus experience.

Future Goals

We are continuing to expand and improve the platform over time.

As the platform evolves, future work may include expanding datasets, improving visualizations, adding new mobility categories, and creating long-term ways to recognize contributors across project generations. We also plan to strengthen data update workflows, improve performance for larger queries, and add clearer documentation so more users can interpret results with confidence. Over time, we hope this project becomes a durable campus resource that continues to grow with changing transportation patterns and community needs.

About Our Partners

Partner agencies provide essential data and context that make this work possible.

We thank UC Davis DOTS, Unitrans, UCD ITS, ASUCD, the City of Davis, Capitol Corridor, and Xentrans for their continued support and valuable insights.
